It costs how much?
Its not major news that the cost of higher education is getting higher and higher, along with gas prices, housing prices, rents and just about everything else! I’ve been taking classes through a university in another state, one that I had attended years ago, and I pay roughly $369 for a 3 credit class. Craving that classroom interaction I thought I would apply and attend the University of Arizona starting this fall. Ah, the well laid plans of mice and men….
I had no problem at all getting in. I got my financial aid award letter and was a little disheartened to see a smaller amount in the Pell grant line than I anticipated. Then I looked up the tuition charges for half-time enrollment and my bubble burst. No classroom experience for me!
For students entering Fall 2007 semester the 6 unit tuition rate is $1611.92, to go full time it is $2523.92. Wow. In Fall 2003 half time attendance was 1137.07 and full time was 1802.07. The rate increases don’t seem like much but I wonder how many students today can even attend without taking out student loans, something I am not going to do.
This peaked my curiousity so I did a little research on surrounding state schools. The results show that the University of Arizona is priced pretty much in the middle of the pack. (all rates are for residents and are taken from the individual schools websites)
And just for kicks -
So it looks like being a Sun Devil is a little cheaper than being a Wildcat. Still, I will remain an independent study student - its all I can afford.

This is really disheartening information. At this rate, I know one person that won’t be attending.
